openEHR International today announces that its Chief Executive Officer, Rachel Dunscombe, will be leaving her role in January 2026 to join HL7 International as CEO.
Under Rachel’s leadership, openEHR International has undergone a period of significant growth, forging partnerships and strengthening links with key global initiatives including the JIC, IHE, EHDS, xShare and IPS. Her commitment to fostering collaborative relationships with other standards bodies including HL7 FHIR, Snomed and OMOP has strengthened alignment across the global standards ecosystem.
Rachel’s move to HL7 International represents a significant and positive step for the global health informatics community, further cementing the close relationship between openEHR International and HL7 International, and underlining a shared commitment to open standards, interoperability, and improving health and care outcomes worldwide.
openEHR International will continue to operate as always, under the management of a strong core team, with strategic guidance from the board of directors, and with the ongoing support of a close and committed global community of experts and supporters.
Although Rachel will be greatly missed as CEO, openEHR International looks forward to continuing to work closely with her in her new position, strengthening alignment across standards organisations. She will continue to take an active role in the openEHR Fellowships program.
