We are pleased to announce the results of the 2025 openEHR International Board election.
Following a successful voting process, we extend our congratulations to the newly elected Board members:

Mikael Nyström – Organisational Representative
Mikael is a board member of the Swedish Medical Informatics Association, where he leads the association’s work on openEHR.
Since 2019, he has worked at Cambio Healthcare Systems AB, currently serving as Principal Informatician in the Product Department. He holds an M.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering (2002) and a Ph.D. in Medical Informatics (2010), both from Linköping University. From 2002 to 2019, he was a researcher and lecturer in medical informatics at the university, focusing on how classifications and SNOMED CT, in combination with openEHR, can support health record structuring.
Mikael has been active in the openEHR community since 2004 and has served on SNOMED International’s advisory committees since their inception in 2007. He has also consulted for the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare, SNOMED International, and worked as an eHealth expert at RISE Research Institutes of Sweden AB.

Matt Cox – Industry Representative
Matt Cox is the Chief Customer Officer at Vitagroup and brings over 20 years of experience working with open standards in healthcare. Throughout his career, he has played a key role in some of the largest global implementations of openEHR, making him a prominent figure in the digital health community.
Matt’s appointment to the openEHR International Board reflects his deep commitment to advancing data independence and vendor-neutral ecosystems in healthcare. As a representative of both Vitagroup and EHRbase, he brings a strong open-source perspective, practical implementation expertise, and a broad understanding of the business and operational challenges involved in adopting open standards.
His presence on the board ensures a vital connection between openEHR’s mission and the real-world needs of health systems.
We also wish to thank Angus Forth and Dahlia Khajeei for being worthy nominees and putting themselves forward. Your contributions helped create a strong and diverse field of candidates, and your willingness to serve is greatly appreciated.
