Andraž Koželj

Andraž Koželj is a Senior Technical Lead at Better. He is highly skilled in technology and has a deep understanding of individual operating principles, allowing him to learn and solve problems quickly in unfamiliar contexts.

Andraž specialises in openEHR and healthcare application development and has been instrumental in delivering comprehensive openEHR training to both partners and customers. Since 2019, he has conducted extensive training sessions for over 50 companies, educating more than 500 individuals. His expertise covers a broad range of key areas, including openEHR fundamentals, AQL training, and the use of Archetype Designer, with a strong focus on modelling principles and openEHR software development using development platforms and low-code tools.

He has experience in leading groups and presenting products, and he can communicate complex concepts at a high difficulty level, but can also break them down into simple explanations for different audiences.

Danielle Santos Alves, PhD

Danielle is a Health Informaticist with a Ph.D in Computer Science and professional background as a nurse, midwife and specialist in home birth. Her doctoratal topic was obstetric telemonitoring and workflow.

Now in the UK, she was previously Lecturer in Women's Health at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), Brazil and Researcher in Teleconsulting Nurse at the Telehealth Center of Pernambuco (NUTES).

Danielle studied the Electronic Patient Record (PEP) at UFPE and graduated in nursing in 2006, earning a Masters in Health Science in 2010 and PhD in the faculty of Computer Science in 2021. She has been working with openEHR for clinical modelling, obstetric workflow and telemonitoring.

David Moner, PhD

David Moner is a Computer Engineer and PhD at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), Spain. He is currently CTO and consultant on semantic interoperability and eHealth standards at openEHR Industry Partner VeraTech for Health. Previously, David worked as a full-time researcher in health information systems and EHR standards in UPV. Since 2005, David has focused on the practical application of health information standards and terminologies such as openEHR, ISO 13606, HL7 CDA, HL7 FHIR, CDISC ODM, SNOMED CT or LOINC. He has participated in more than 30 research and applied projects, and has more than 50 publications in this field, including his PhD thesis titled “Archetype development and governance methodologies for the electronic health record”. In the education area, David has given academic training about semantic interoperability and EHR standards in the Master of Biomedical Engineering of the UPV, in the Master of Medical Informatics of the University of Alcalá de Henares, and as part of medical informatics courses in the Computer Engineering degree of the UPV. He has also provided on-demand professional training in ISO 13606, openEHR, HL7 CDA, HL7 FHIR and SNOMED CT, having trained over 500 clinical and technical professionals in the use of these standards.

Paul is a General Practitioner and Clinical Informatician. He is also the Clinical informatics lead for the NHS Scotland National Digital Platform and is involved in managing the clinical models for the platform data and in educating the team on openEHR.  Other areas of interest include clinical safety assessments, clinical terminologies and interoperability.

Dr Ramy Azzam

Dr. Ramy Azzam is a seasoned healthcare executive with over 18 years of professional experience in the fields of internal medicine, digital health, and healthcare management. Currently based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Dr. Azzam holds an MBBS, an MBA in Healthcare Management from Geneva Business School, and an MPH in Global Mental Health from King's College London (pending a dissertation).

Dr. Azzam's career has been marked by his leadership in deploying innovative health technologies and developing data-driven population health programs across diverse sectors such as insurance, telecommunications, retail, and pharmaceuticals in the Middle East and Africa. As the Virtual Health Manager at Mediclinic Middle East in Dubai, he has spearheaded the strategic design and implementation of primary care and chronic disease management programs, achieving significant improvements in patient satisfaction and operational efficiencies.

Previously, as the Regional Medical Director for MeetingDoctors in Barcelona, Spain, Dr. Azzam led the expansion of telehealth services across MEASAT, EU, and LATAM, greatly enhancing service adoption and platform functionality. His efforts in regulatory compliance and quality standards have notably contributed to the licensing of the first European telehealth provider in the UAE.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Azzam excelled as a Medical Director and Lead Telehealth Specialist at Health at Hand Healthcare in Dubai, where he was instrumental during the COVID-19 pandemic, scaling operations to meet skyrocketing demand. He started his medical career in Egypt, serving as an Internal Medicine Resident at the Egyptian Armed Forces’ medical services, where he played a crucial role during the Arab Spring protests.

Dr. Azzam is certified in several specialties including Telehealth by the American Board of Telehealth and holds additional certifications in AI in Healthcare, Medical Epidemiology & Statistics, and Data Analysis & BI. Heather is an experienced clinician informatician with a long history of involvement in international digital health standards. Her primary focus for many years has been on developing high-quality 'little data' to establish a coherent health data ecosystem. She has extensive expertise in clinical information modelling, clinical knowledge governance, data quality and safety, and engagement with clinicians and domain experts.

As principal of Atomica Informatics (2018- ) her everyday work is involves data standardisation in international and national eHealth programs, including supporting logical model development for Australia’s Sparked FHIR accelerator.  Heather was a leader of the openEHR Clinical Modelling program from 2008 to 2021 and administrator of the openEHR Clinical Knowledge Manager until 2023.

Heather Leslie is an experienced clinician and health informatician, Principal at Atomica Informatics and previously co-lead of the openEHR International Clinical Modelling program.

Trained as a medical doctor but an engineer at heart and self-taught full-stack developer, Koray has done his PhD in health informatics on openEHR and is a Foundational Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Digital Health (FAIDH). With almost 30 years of experience in digital health as a developer, academic researcher and entrepreneur, he has a strong background in EHR & health information architectures, interoperability with hands on implementation experience on key standards such as HL7 v2, FHIR and SNOMED-CT. Koray's mission is to fix healthcare by enabling patient-centred, personalised, and value-based appropriate care through interoperability and digital health solutions.

Koray has been contributing to standards development and governance at a global scale, religiously to openEHR as a domain expert and former member of the first openEHR Foundation Management Board. Koray is also a founding member of HL7 Turkey and has been on HL7 New Zealand Board since 2011. He is also a member of the ISO TC/251 Taskforce on Telehealth and Virtual Care.

Luis Marco-Ruiz, PhD

Luis Marco-Ruiz, PhD, is a data engineer at HIGHmed Consortium, who focuses his work on the adoption of information standards and terminologies for clinical data reuse and clinical decision support. He holds a MSc in Applied Statistics and a PhD in Health Science.

Since 2007 Dr. Marco-Ruiz has participated as a developer, advisor, and researcher in private- and public-funded projects in Norway, Germany, the UK, and Spain. In 2013 he joined the Norwegian Centre for E-health Research where he works in the development of national data reuse infrastructures and advises the Norwegian health authorities on the adoption of clinical information standards and biomedical ontologies. In addition, he works as a semantic interoperability specialist at the Peter L. Reichertz Institute for Medical Informatics (Hannover Medical School) developing a cross-institutional data reuse network for the HiGHmed consortium, which involves the Hannover Medical School, Heidelberg University Hospital, and University Medical Center Göttingen, among others.

Renaud Subiger

Renaud Subiger is a solutions architect with a passion for digital health and interoperability. He has been working on designing and implementing various systems within the Java ecosystem for over 17 years now.

Since 2016, Renaud has been involved in significant healthcare projects such as MyHealth@EU, NUM-CODEX, SiNCP, and has also participated in several IHE Connectathon events. Through these experiences, he has gained an extensive knowledge of standards like FHIR, openEHR, the IHE profiles, and DICOM.

Simon Gash

Simon has spent the majority of his career in healthcare building a huge variety of clinical information systems. This culminated in an award-winning real-time patient flow management platform for Plymouth Hospital Trust. This platform was his first introduction to using openEHR in an existing solution.

Currently Simon is Head of Products and Architecture for Future Perfect, and is designing and building clinical solutions that use openEHR to as the repository for the patient electronic record.

Thomas Beale

Thomas is one of the founders of openEHR International and is the chief technical architect and editor of the openEHR specifications, and was the co-chair on the Specifications Editorial Committee (SEC) up to 2023. He is also a openEHR CIC Board member.

He has participated in international standards work (OMG HDTF, HL7, CEN TC/251) for many years. He designed the archetype formalism (ADL), object model (AOM) (an ISO standard), the Basic Meta-Model (BMM), and much of the Task Planning and Decision Language specifications.

He has consulted for Intermountain Healthcare, the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and various ministries, departments of health and other public agencies in places including Australia, UK, Brazil, Jamaica, Denmark, Sweden, and Catalonia.

Thomas's academic background is in Electrical Engineering (communications) and Computer Science. His earlier professional work was in real-time distributed control (SCADA) systems for power, gas and mining; investment management and finance, and document and software configuration management systems.

He has published a number of papers in health informatics and has presented widely on the patient-centric EHR, the model-based platform eco-system, and e-Health strategy.
