Announcing the formation of the openEHR Clinical Program Board

openEHR International has great pleasure in announcing the formation of the Clinical Program Board (CPB), which is the governing group for the Clinical Program, the part of openEHR responsible for clinical modelling and related areas.

We received a large number of applications for positions on the CPB and its associated Clinical Program Board Experts Panel (CPBXP). We have opted to create the CPB with a minimum core group of just three individuals who are widely respected by the community, and have extensive experience with clinical modelling, programmes and medical informatics. They also come from three different countries. They are:

  • Dr Paul Miller, MBChB, MRCGP, DRCOG: Paul is a General Practitioner and Clinical Informatician. He is also the Clinical informatics lead for the NHS Scotland National Digital Platform and is involved in managing the clinical models for the platform data and in educating the team on openEHR.
  • Vanessa Pereira, MSc: Vanessa has a B.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering from Polytechnic of Porto - School of Engineering (ISEP) and holds an M.Sc. in Medical informatics from the Faculty of Medicine of University of Porto (FMUP). She has extensive experience in openEHR platform and knowledge engineering products, as well as a long history of working with openEHR archetypes and CKM.
  • Dr Joost Holslag, MD: Joost trained as a medical doctor at the University of Groningen Netherlands and has clinical experience in neuro-surgery and elderly care. He works as a health informatics specialist at Nedap in the Netherlands, and has been heavily involved with openEHR for some years, including the clinical modelling effort.

Paul, Vanessa and Joost will act as co-chairs and will initially work to grow the CPB by bringing on board new members from the remaining pool of applicants, in the spirit of meritocracy as practiced by the Apache Foundation. Their intention is to grow the board quickly to a size where it will consist of sufficient numbers and diverse experience to attack the initial questions of defining goals, building a roadmap, and determing resourcing needs. Part of this initial growth phase will include engaging some of the community’s best known experts via the Experts Panel associated with the CPB. One of the highest priorities of course will be the question of scaling the clinical modelling effort.

Once this initial phase is achieved, the CPB will of course continue to grow and change over time, in the same manner as the other permanent Program Boards in openEHR.

The CPB can be reached by mentioning them (i.e. using ‘@CPB’) in Discourse, via email at cpb@discourse.openehr.org and via interaction on the public clinical categories on Discourse
