Two new openEHR affiliate groups under development

Two new openEHR Affiliate groups are being formed: one in the United States and another focused on Global Life Sciences, each offering opportunities for people who either want to begin exploring openEHR or are looking to apply it directly in their research.

These groups held their first organisational meeting together in May via Zoom, and both are being supported by Dr John Powderly, Founder of BioCytics and the Carolina BioOncology Institute in Huntersville, North Carolina. With more than twenty years of experience in clinical trials through his work at the Institute, together with hands-on involvement in lab-based cancer treatment research through BioCytics, Dr Powderly brings an unusually broad perspective on the importance of flexible and efficient approaches to data collection and use, which led him to search for something more effective than the so-called “gold standard” solutions still in use today.

When he came across openEHR, he immediately recognised its potential and decided to lend his support to getting these two Affiliate Groups established and active.

“In both clinical research and lab-based studies, having a system that adapts to the way we work rather than forcing us to conform is essential, and openEHR offers exactly that. Flexible, reliable and designed for the real-world challenges of modern healthcare and life sciences.”

For now, the groups are moving through the early organisational stages together, but as documentation, leadership and membership become formalised, they will naturally separate and begin operating independently.

If you would like to join one or both of these groups, please send an email to bizdev@carolinabiooncology.org with “openEHR inquiry” in the subject line.
