2026 Fellow

Dr Stefan Buttigieg

Stefan is a Specialist in Public Health Medicine at Malta’s Ministry for Health and Active Ageing, where he works across health data governance, public health information systems and electronic patient records. An internationally recognised keynote speaker with more than 75 engagements, he also lectures at the University of Malta and is Vice-President of the EUPHA Digital Health Section, with a focus on sustainable, equitable and AI-enabled digital health.

2026 Fellow

Loes Jaspers

Loes is a Dutch public health physician and epidemiologist specialising in infectious disease control and travel medicine. Driven by human connection and social impact, she finds energy in turning complex public health challenges into practical, evidence-based solutions that work in the real world. As domain specialist and clinical modeller in the Dutch national programme for pandemic-ready information systems, she works to make information fit for action in outbreak prevention and response. She does this by standardising and harmonising data registration according to international standards, hopefully openEHR in the near future.

Her fellowship project, Towards a Federated openEHR Architecture for Vaccination & Immunisation Records, has three aims:

  1. Build international consensus on how to model vaccination and immunisation in openEHR.
  2. Form a community to validate those models in clinical practice.
  3. Run a proof of concept with suppliers showing how the models can give citizens and healthcare professionals access to vaccination information.

Outside medicine, Loes holds a WSET Level 3 diploma and has hands-on experience in food and wine pairing, winemaking and wine-focused travel. She spends part of each year in her second home, Cape Town.

2026 Fellow

Sheeren Khalifa

Sheeren is a Health Informatician at Big Picture Medical. She brings a mix of pharmacy and informatics experience together with a business and process lens; she’s less interested in one-off fixes than in improving how things are designed, managed and scaled. Day to day, she works on semantic interoperability, mapping clinical data standards and building openEHR templates that keep clinical meaning intact.

She’s curious by nature and human-centred by instinct, with a deep interest in how AI can be applied responsibly and genuinely usefully in healthcare. Currently an MBA (Technology & Digital Strategy) candidate at the University of Sydney, Sheeren is drawn to openEHR because it treats clinical modelling as a shared, open craft, and she wants to help build this work and the processes around it so that good digital health can scale.

2026 Fellow

Dr Olha Nikolaieva

Olha is a former oncologist with a strong focus on health IT and data modelling. She works as a clinical modeller at University Hospital Basel, helping develop digital solutions that support data integration and improve patient care workflows, and is passionate about standards-based approaches to clinical decision support. She is also a member of the openEHR Clinical Program Board.

2026 Fellow

Abigail Okonu

Abigail is a licensed pharmacist, supply chain professional and researcher, currently studying for a Master’s in Digital Health at the Deggendorf Institute of Technology in Germany. She volunteers with the institute’s Digital Health Team on the Xpanding Innovative Alliance (XiA), a European project building digital health and interoperability learning pathways for the European Health Data Space. She has supported pharmaceutical and public health supply chain projects through the Africa Resource Center for Excellence in Supply Chain Management, and is interested in health data interoperability, AI and healthcare robotics.

2026 Fellow

Dr Lena Schell-Majoor

Lena is a postdoctoral researcher in the Cluster of Excellence “Hearing4all” at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg. Her research covers web-based, self-administered psychoacoustics, mobile hearing health and data-driven audiology, aiming to improve individualised hearing technology and care for everyone. She is a founding member and coordinator of the European Federation of Audiology Societies’ working group on data formats for Big Data in audiology, through which she began modelling audiological archetypes with openEHR.
